One Drum

(Now, the story seems to end here, but it actually doesn’t. The fact is, Roman was simply too exhausted after suffering his Florida cold to add any more details about the journey. And after the band returned home on January 30th, he simply overlooked this page until now. Unfortunately, the passage of time has somewhat dimmed his memory of the remainder of the trip. However, here are some minor details to keep the reader’s interest:

• We played a great show at The Presbyterian University in Clinton, SC
• We drove back home, and Roman somehow ruined his laptop, preventing any continued logging of the journey.
• We played one last school show in the Chicago area before returning to our sweethearts in the winterland of America’s midwest.

• 10:00 am – Roman takes the day off to spend with Sarale. David likewise spends the day with Maria and Ian, and then later joins Doc, Thacher and Ceeloe at Barb & Mel’s house.
• 2:00 pm – Barb & Mel’s pool party, featuring music by One Drum.
• 7:00 pm – while the others are partying around the pool several miles away, Roman & Sarale, driven by hunger, join Alon (the owner of the motel) for conversation, and we all decide to order some food together.
• 9:00 pm – the food arrives, Alon gives us a bottle of wine, and we retire to dine in the privacy of our cabin.

• 10:00 am – Roman wakes up with an itch in the back of his throat. This itch, he knows, is the indication that he is officially sick. The cold weather conditions of Florida have taken their toll.
• 4:30 pm – we drive the van to Susan’s house once again, to pick up the trailer and Ceeloe and Thacher. Apparently Thacher has also contracted the same bug as Roman, and Roman remembers some sniffling kids at the last schools where we played.
• 6:30 pm – we arrive at Homestead, a town that was all but wiped out by Hurricane Andrew. We unload and start setting up at Main Street Cafe. The sound engineer Scott is the epitome of professionalism, efficiency, and humor rolled up into one. We have a very pleasant set-up.
• 8:15 pm – we perform two sets for an audience of diners. The house chili, made by Duane, is the most incredible vegan chili we’ve ever had! The performance, the audience, the ambience all contribute to an incredible experience.
